Artist Statement

Fashion enhances the natural beauty of a person and helps express how we feel on the inside. This is what I do as a photographer. The photographs I create are an enhanced version of my reality. They are the world as I imagine it through vibrant color, unique pattern and enhanced light. Fashion and beauty conveys a lifestyle, which is one that I am a part of. It excites me and sparks my creative vision everyday. I incorporate the graphic elements I see in fabric patterns and textures into the overall look of my photo- graphs. I utilize imaginative lighting techniques to enhance every image and with each element they build off the other, creating my overall style.

Photography is more than the action of snapping a picture with a camera. Taking an image is just a small piece of the puzzle. Working out the details such as location, wardrobe, lighting, and post-production techniques during the planning process is an essential part of how I work. The time spent on an image before and after actually taking each photograph defines my role as a creative professional. Planning each photograph can be extensive and each idea may evolve over time. Experimenting with a particular style and topic can expand to contain many layers of symbolism. Wardrobe choice, lighting, and color can define everything from a particular era, mood, or idea. I hope that combining my love for fashion and beauty with my technical knowledge of the image making process my photographs reveal a different side of a relevant topic.
